ABOUT MAX...

Max Cooperstein has been in the recording industry for nearly 50 years.  Working with some of the giants of Jazz, Blues, and Rock and Roll, Max is a venerable institutional memory.

Over the years he was worked with Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Etta James, Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Walter, and Bill Haley and The Comets.  In addition, he was involved with Aretha Franklin’s first song, a gospel tune for Chess Records.

Max’s resume includes working with industry giants Leonard Chess, Wolfman Jack, The Hound Dog, and Alan Freed.

Over the years, Max booked Etta James, Junior Wells, Stanley Turrentine, Jimmy Smith, Joe Louis Walker, Lucky Peterson, Ahmad Jamal, Ray Brown, Charles Brown, Ruth Brown and Mose Allison.

Currently, Max works with blues greats Little Milton and Magic Slim, John Primer (former Muddy Waters guitarist), Nora Jean Bruso, Carl Weathersby, and four-time Grammy Award nominee Ernestine Anderson.

But it was Max’s encounter with a young disc jockey named Dick Clark that helped shape music history.

Max, who at the time was with Chess Records, strongly urged Leonard Chess to send Chuck Berry into Philadelphia for Clark’s pilot show, which was instrumental in American Bandstand becoming national, and a part of American pop culture.
